A few decades back, girls looked at marriage as a normal progression to life.
It was understood that everyone had to get married after reaching a particular age.
Their highest aspiration was to be an attractive, intelligent, loving, and beloved stay-at-home wife and mother.
But today, when you look around, you see a huge change in the way this generation thinks. It does not matter whether the girl is a city girl or comes from a small town.
They no longer want to be the stereotypes of their moms and grand moms.
They are demanding equal rights, equal pay, and equal say.
Instead of polishing the glass ceiling, women today are seeking to smash it.
This drastic social shift has unsurprisingly created a sea-change in younger women’s attitudes about all sorts of things, including marriage.
The man earning a paycheck and the woman spending it has become a relic of a bygone era, at least among young people. What women currently seek from romance, sex, and relationships is almost inconceivably different than what they (supposedly) wanted half a century ago.
Marriage has become a lot less appealing
I think what makes this remarkable development possible is not just the easy availability of the pill or legal abortion, but the whole new landscape of sexual freedom. Today’s young girls can delay marriage and have temporary relationships that don’t derail their education or career.
The simple fact is that in almost every area of human social interaction, digital technology, combined with social change (usually initiated by earlier generations), has brought major shifts in younger people’s attitudes and views of the world. Intimate relations are no exception to this.
So today, girls are at par with their male counterparts. Be it education, job, inheritance, or sex.
Many girls today look at marriage as a barrier to their freedom. They are happy spreading their wings and flying high up in the air, conquering heights, while choosing to stay happily unmarried.
