Effects of Social Media

Many young aspiring actors experience disappointment when they see others landing acting jobs while they themselves don’t even receive a callback after auditions. Feeling upset in such situations is completely natural rejection is a part of every creative journey. The real problem begins when disappointment slowly turns into self-doubt and depression, often fueled by excessive exposure to social media.

Platforms like Instagram and Facebook mostly showcase people’s highlights – successful projects, glamorous photos, vacations, achievements, and carefully curated moments. Constantly scrolling through such content can create the false impression that everyone else is succeeding and living a perfect life, while they alone are struggling. In reality, most people are ghting their own battles behind the scenes.
In this vulnerable phase, many young actors lose focus. Some fall into the wrong company or get inuenced by unhealthy habits and distractions. Others become obsessed with gaining attention online through reels and videos, believing that visibility alone will bring opportunities. While social media can sometimes be useful, chasing validation online often takes them further away from their
actual craft. In some cases, it may even create an image that does not help their acting career.

Instead of getting consumed by comparison and online approval, aspiring actors should invest their energy into improving themselves as artists. Joining dance classes, diction and voice training, theatre workshops, or simply developing the habit of reading can sharpen both skill and perspective.
Every hour spent learning and growing contributes far more to an actor’s journey than endless scrolling on social media.

Success in acting is rarely immediate. It requires patience, discipline, emotional strength, and continuous self-improvement. Social media should never become the measure of one’s worth or progress. The focus should always remain on the art, because true growth comes from dedication to the craft – not from temporary online attention.

A very unique thought on social media. It’s does not always give positive outcomes. People should use it carefully.
