Why only philosophy? When I saw my 71 year old ambitious, energetic and workaholic, father in the ICU of a reputed Mumbai hospital, helpless and at the mercy of doctors, I could see a huge change. Once a lion had turned into a calf. Life indeed had taken a halt.
Lying on the hospital bed and doing every little thing at someone else’s direction I could see how a man can start feeling dependent on others.
All our lives we do innumerable things, plan for the future and do tend to ignore our present. We take many things and people for granted. In fact, the people whom we take for granted are those who actually are our dear ones.
Health is kept low on our priority , we spend thousands of rupees on clothes, jewellery, cosmetics and numerous other things but when it comes to a regular health check-up we feel it’s waste of time and money. We just are not able to understand that a little sum of money spent, could save on big bucks and huge tension later on.
Spending a few days there in the hospital and seeing my father developing other complications, made me look at life differently. I think those days did make a little change in me. It made me more practical as a person and changed my perspective towards life.
I realised, how futile many things are and how important and necessary some other things can be.
It made me believe in the philosophy of living every day to the fullest and also doing things as and when you feel. Be it calling , gifting or just saying sorry.
Not waiting for the right moment to come, as you never know, one may have to wait a lifetime for that moment.
It made me forgive many people who have hurt me and had been mean to me.
I could sense, how we all are tied to various individuals be it friends or relatives, and how one’s state of mind can make the other person happy or sad.
I also realised, how one has to fight and survive as things can come to a halt but never stop.
Finally, the most important thing I learnt is that, true wealth is the wealth of love and support which we have from our near and dear ones, the philosophy. It’s their sheer presence, love and wishes which can make a person feel better to get started again.
